It’s another long holiday and i like to wish all my muslim friends a very happy HARI RAYA (new year) … once again, I won’t be able to go back to my dear Labuan Island to visit my parents bcos i’m busy preparing for my chinese album launch … i believe everything happens for a reason and right now, it’s important tat i stay in KL bcos i’ve waited a long time for tis …
If u haven’t heard it yet … I finally have my very first chinese song 離島 which went on-air last week, you know … i stayed tune all night on monday to wait for my own song (MYFM) and it was really wonderful to hear my own voice introducing my radio single (hehe) … i was even more surprised when i received SMS from Jayne (i was in a studio at the time) last wednesday .. tat my single ‘LI DAO’ was voted no 1 on MYFM night chart … believe it or not, tear started flowing down from my eyes when i saw the SMS, i guess apart from me being very very happy .. i cried bcos i felt tat my hard work was being appreciated by all my supporters … i really can’t thank all of ya enough for believing in me for so long … <thank you>.
For those who wrote to me about ‘Li Dao’ .. i hope tis special song also touch your heart and make you appreciate where u r from even more, i know it’s not easy to search for your own dream being away from home.. it certainly makes me miss my dear home so much everytime i sing tis song … anyway, i hope someone can help me translate the lyrics(PLEASE) so tat friends who cannot read chinese can also understand the meaning of this song … thanks again, and i wish all of you a happy holiday …

Hi all .. i was told many well-known artistes have their own stage name, those famous names I have come to know all my life are actually not their real names … and when I was asked if I’m ok to have a chinese ’stage name’ the first thing i did was asked my parents whether they’re agreeable .. so knowing tat I will always be known as their ‘Karen’ .. they said OK!
So finally my artist company and I decided that before launching my debut chinese album, my artiste-name will be‘GONG KE YUN’ or 龔 柯 允 in chinese.. (can u read?). I like it cos it feels and sounds like KAREN and tat’s who I am anyway, hehe. And I really hope that all my chinese supporters will like tis new name(i never really disclosed my actual chinese name anyway haha!) and enjoy my chinese songs …
Speaking of that … i’ve just listened to the final mix of my FIRST ever chinese song today!! It’s really very different compare to my ‘malay’ music voice, and u now wat! hearing my own song for the first time gives me that kinda feeling again, bcos it’s really satisfying knowing tat no matter how my music is goin to turn out .. i know tat i’ve put in my 100% : >so if u r reading tis … pls stay tune and support me bcos my music promo will be goin out on radio (finally!) next week … errr, i’m not sure which station cos my manager won’t tell me just yet … it’s supposed to b a surprise for me (hehe).
I just attended a show and performed my AKAN song last night
in Sungei Wang KL (my first performance there) and it was pretty great cos many
of my supporters turned up to show their support .. thanks a bunch guys, I
really2 appreciate it a lot … !!! Tomorrow I’ll be going to Malacca for my last

Well after my Malacca promo also means the end of my malay
album promo campaign (kinda cos it’s been more than 6-months) and I’ll go back
into studio to fully focus on my next album (can’t wait!). I heard all the songs chosen for this album
and I’m very2 excited… ever since I launched my debut malay album, everyone
has been asking me when will I get a chance to do a Chinese album since I’m a
pure-chinese (99% at least) and I do realize that in order to give my best, I
need to focus on one-thing at a time … sometimes I cannot be too ambitious and
wanna do everything in such a hurry …
Recording a mandarin album is actually not as easy or as
natural as I first thought, it’s very different from doing a malay album … I’ve
been speaking mandarin all my life (many people actually thought I can’t hehe)
but singing in mandarin is a different story because my ‘Pulau Labuan’ mandarin
is kinda … well … needs a lot of improving (haha). Then there’s the feeling, emotion and toning down of my voice since I
can sing a bit ‘too loud’ so it’s a lot to learn all over again … hope I won’t
let my producers down (hehe).
For those who have been writing to me and also dropping nice
comments .. I’m sorry tat I haven’t been replying even though I read them
(thanks again) so when I get the time .. I will write back .. oh if you’re in

I’ve been busy doing performances around the country
(Kuching, Penang, Labuan, Shah Alam, Johore etc) because this August is a
special month in my country and we’re celebrating our nation’s 50th
Anniversary since our independence in 1957. I guess I’m too young to know everything about the meaning of ‘Merdeka’ … but over the last few weeks the word ‘NEGARAKU’ suddenly became such a hot
discussion topic everywhere (reason which I dun need to explain here, hehe) ..
well it actually makes me think more deeply about what is the true meaning of
this celebration …
When I started to write my profile (many months ago in 2006)
… I remember writing about how “we live in a cynical world with too much
unhappiness around” … which is why I always choose to look towards the positive
side of life. Earlier this year when I
released my debut album <MULAKAN> … many people asked me .. “why am I
launching a full Malay album when I am a pure Chinese?” It was a straight
forward answer for me .. all my life I have grown up in a multi-cultural
society and that makes me a true Malaysian … so having the passion to sing in
multiple languages is a natural thing for me.
Anyway, I just wanna say tat I really feel saddened by all the negativity surrounding our 50th Malaysia anniversary over the last
few weeks … because I believe we all can do better than this .. so if you’re
reading this, I hope together, we can bring more positive energy into this
celebration. I guess my way to trying
to make a small difference is through my music … so I recorded an unplugged
version of <Malaysiaku Gemilang> as my own little contribution to this
celebration … please check it out at my friendster page okie, it was not done professionally (as usual,
hehe) but I hope you can feel the spirit of this coming national celebration

Hi all .. yes i know, it’s been such a lOOOOOOOOooong time since i last updated by blog, i remember putting a ‘part 1′ on my previous post thinking tat i’ll continue on it but so sorry .. before i could do any updates my time was filled up wit all the final preparations of the actual show .. (check out the photos, tat’s how i watched my own music show for the first time, hehe … thanks 2 all my supporters who came tat night) …
One of the other reason for my absence is bcos i dunno wat to write for a while, most of the things i wanna say, i already said it during the six episodes of my music show, so i think i shouldn’t be repeating it again here and if u missed out (hehe) pls watch it again on my main profile ya!
I have received SOooo many well-wishes from friends who watched the show, and it’s a wonderful experience for me especially knowing that it was created for all my online friends … in return, your kind word & comment would be all i need (hehe), thanks again and most important, i hope somehow my story also inspire you …
Well .. some updates on my life, i just came back from a special first-ever performance in my hometown Labuan and also my dear school SM ST ANNE (i have not been able to take out to go home since i launched by album so it was GREAT) .. i got to see my grandma, cousins and many friends even though it was such a short trip .. oh, i was also followed by a camera crew for 3-days shooting a show so u can imagine the rush but it was my only chance to go home so i couldn’t let it go, haaha!
This coming week is starting of another promo-period again for me .. i’ll be going Shah Alam with the Impian Ilyana Giant tour tis sunday (next week is Penang) and also i’ll be visiting Kuching for my first promo-tour also (6 & 7 Aug at Hilton) so guys if u r in Kuching, come support me okie! If u r a fan of Impian Ilyana TV3 show, i’ll be appearing as guest artiste for a few episodes so stay tune also ya … (check out the photos below)
After AUGUST - i’ll be spending HEAPS more time back into the studio (finally) so my next project, which i’ve waited for the whole year to do - guys, it’s finally my turn to come up with my own MANDARIN chinese album !!! hehehe .. well, i guess it’s still a long way to go since i haven’t started recording (hehe) but i’m really2 looking forward to it … many people have been asking me tis so there u go guys .. hope u dun have to wait too long …

Hi all … i’ve spoken about tis since last year, wat was only in my thought will finally become a reality on 17th July 2007 9PM - I will performing my very first online music show, which can only be view over the internet (free of charge!) hehe … the main reason tis is possible bcos tis show is presented by Sunsilk which appointed me as their ‘Unbreakable Spirit’ campaign ambassador 2 months ago …
Since then … I’ve been busy visiting many places in Malaysia lately to promote this campaign with my new song <AKAN> and <UNBREAKABLE>, i just wanted people to know tat i’m not someone who is already successful … if you’ve seen my ‘unbreakable spirit’ video clip .. you will know tat i’m someone who has failed many times in life .. but i didn’t give up and i’m still working very hard towards my goals …
So tis first ever online music show is about my own ‘Unbreakable Spirit’ and also to celebrate the spirit of this campaign - since i started my own page here .. i’ve had the chance to meet so many new friends who have come to know about me and my music but sadly i’ve not been able to perform in many of the cities(and countries) where my friends live .. so tis would be a show dedicated to all my online supporters … i really hope u guys can tune incos i’ve put a lot of work in it .. from coming up with the different themes of the show to choosing the right songs to perform …
Many of you will now ask … "where to tune in ?" .. yes i’ll update u guys with tis on my next entry okie .. i need to get tis 100% correct since i’m not very good with the technical stuff (hehe) but will get back to you very soon ya … pls visit tis page again okie, your support really means a lot to me … Karen

Yes … i took a break and went for a shopping holiday last week (can anyone guess where i went? clues every where in the the photos) … it was very short, hehe … i arrived on the last flight on friday night and had to leave on the first flight out on monday .. very tiring : <
Anyway, at least i achieved wat i planned to do there .. eat very2 nice food (well not all the food was nice as u can see from photo, heehe) and buy very2 nice clothes .. hehe .. so i really hope to go back there again soon! I also catch up with my new friend (she’s so cute .. eheh), can you imagine we spent almost 7-8 hours in ONE shopping mall shopping for clothes?!! … Which is why i ended up wit sore muscles all over …
Anyway … i did more promo again tis week ... had a great time meeting many fellow students as well during my campus tour - thanks so much for those who showed up to support me, u guys r GRRREEEAT!
Last night was fun cos I performed <AKAN> at Agnes Monica’s concert here in KL as a guest artiste, she’s so pretty and a wonderful performer (and i heard she’s chinese too) … tat gives me more encouragement cos I’m a chinese singing malay songs (bahasa indonesian is very similar to malay btw) …
This coming weeks will be devoted to getting my songs ready for my online ‘mini’ concert … i will create an entire post soon to talk about it ya .. right now, i’m still figuring out how to sing so many songs at one–go (gee gotta do more exercise of course!) … really look forward to the music performance, it’s happening in MID-JULY so pls stay tune okie!!!

So tis blogs is basically about my funny faces and also my little tribute to a new ‘very cute’ movie which i saw recently(can anyone guess who or which character i’m trying to make??? hehe …)lemme know your answer in here okie!
These past few weeks have been pretty exciting for me cos i’ve been traveling to promote the Sunsilk campaign (Batu Pahat / Ipoh / Sg Buloh) and tis weekend is ‘finally’ a break for me so i’ll be travelling again but tis time a short-holiday + shopping trip(guess where i’ll be goin)yeah … !!! really can’t wait to hop onto the plane … hehe.

Last week was another pretty fruitful week as I did a chinese ‘talk-show’ at Astro which I was
engaged in ‘debating’ in mandarin entirely
(wow, haha) but most of the time i just had
fun laughing at my own mandarin .. haha! Many well-known
seniors from the music industry were there including MYFM Vivian, Yu Zhong, Danny, Cheong-Go and many more
… i was the youngest in the groupso they took care of me well .. hehee (thanks!).
I also visited MYFM & XFRESH radio
studio for my <Unbreakable
Spirit> interview as well .. speaking
on-air in mandarin was a big-challenge for me as I’m still trying to
improve my ‘hua-yu’ hehe …

My week brought me to Johore Bahru (Danga
Bay) for my first chinese crowd
performance - Astro Super 50 Concert! Manage to catch up with
my new friends & performers and had a
great time … so glad tat Astro can support newcomers like us … i guess if only i
did better on stage I would have enjoyed even more, communicating to the crowd and also TV viewers in
mandarin took a lot of work (hehe) so somehow I feel tat I didn’t do so well … i guess there’s still so much more i need to improve
… anyway it was a great learning experience for me …
